Not Worth Fighting For

Fighting is not, and never has been a part of this league. If there was any question whether or not it is tolerated, then please pay attention to a recent ruling by the Disciplinary Committee. Fights are rare, if not unheard of in our league, and with the precedent now set, they should never be heard of again.

If you find yourself in a situation on the ice that your only recourse is to drop your gloves start throwing punches, then be prepared for the consequence of at least a 5 game suspension and the possibility of getting thrown out of the league.

Don't do it! Your too old for it anyway.

League Expansion

September 2023

The Richmond Oldtimers 2023-24 season is underway with an expansion into two division. We have added a new division intended for players over the age of 65, but will allow some players 60 and older.

The Island Sun have moved to the older division joining the Avalanche and Cowboys who have each added a second team of senior players. Included in the expansion is an affiliation with a senior version of the Rusty Blades who play Monday night. The Blades will host exhibition games with the our league.

Wednesday night games will be exclusively for the remaining teams with an age requirement of 53 and over. This includes returning teams of the Avalanche, Cowboys, Evaders, Greyhawks, Roadrunners, Rusty Blades and Shogun.

Also entering into the mix is the Guns. They will host the Wednesday 9:30pm ice time and invite teams for exhibition games throughout the season.

We are breaking new ground this season and it promises to be a very interesting one. There are a lot of unknowns, but we know for sure we are in for some tough competition and a lot of fun!

Introducing 60 plus

A New Year brings a certain promise of one thing: We're all getting older!

But age is the very definition of Oldtimers Hockey, so providing a place for aging players to play is the prime directive. There comes a time when even the most resilent competitor begins to find it difficult to keep up and a choice has to be made.

As a league, we could continue to move the age restriction higher, but that would eliminate players younger players who are in fact quite old and also looking for a place to play. To continue to advance the age threshold would eventually and quite literally kill the league.

The solution is to create a new chapter for the league, designating specific ice times for older players.

We now have a prime ice time available on Tuesday night at 8:00pm specifically for that purpose. If you are 60 years or older and want to learn more about playing amongst your peers, contact League President Doug Collins doug@oldtimershockey.ca

Richmond Oldtimers prepare to hit the ice again on September 14th with a new Executive Team.

The close of the 2021-22 season marked the end of an era for the ROTHC. Long time league organizer, Bruce Imrie resigned his leadership after many years of dedicated service.

Having moved to the Okanagan a few years back, Bruce had continued to run the league quite efficiently from Vernon. But at last he has finally decided to pass the torch, much to our regret. We accept this eventuality with disappointment and gratitude for his many years of invaluable service to us all. Thank you Bruce!

In his place, after 22 years as President of the Richmond Industrial Hockey League, Doug Collins moves over to take the helm of the Richmond Oldtimers, with Rob Lang assuming the role of Vice President and Referee Coordinator. But it will take more than 2 men to take over the work that Bruce did. The managers of each team will contribute to the effort, helping out in various ways in the spirit of cooperation that has long embodied the League.
